Day 1 Ballina

Day 2 Byron

Start the day with a tour and route briefing, equipment fitting.

A moderately demanding ride over some of the best cycle touring country Australia has to offer. The rolling volcanic hills with their fertile soils nurture native bush foods, macadamia nuts, and tropical fruits. Voyage through nestled hinterland villages, enjoying a tour of a local coffee plantation, coastal views and rewarding descents to the destination, the most easterly point, Byron Bay.

Day 3 Byron Bay (optional)

Add a relax day at Byron Bay or be active, try a rainforest mountain biking session or an ocean based activity.

By night the town comes alive with live bands, street musicians and clubs, not to mention the eateries from gourmet restaurants to relaxed dining. The beer garden overlooking Main Beach is the perfect spot to have an afternoon ale or to take in the spectacular ocean views. If you're staying for a couple of days or for an extended holiday, Byron Bay offers something for everyone.

Day 4 Tweed valley Beyond Byron's Hinterland

A demanding Full day ride Navigating unsealed hilly sections and descents through the sub-tropical hinterland, an encapsulation of nature as diverse as it is breath taking. Time stops as you ride away from the cosmopolitan "Bay" to pristine rainforest, secluded waterfalls, rolling green hills and panoramic views. Bask in the beauty of the landscape and be surprised by its secrets. Quaint and unspoiled villages are scattered throughout the hinterland area, many of them unchanged since they were founded at the turn of the century. Finish this awesome day at a pretty river setting to reflect.

Day 5 Borderlands

Have a good breakfast today; it's a big day, not the alps and no snow up here, but may feel like it at times! Say goodbye to NSW and climb over the border ranges into the next state of Queensland. Un-sealed roads and secret short cuts lead to find hidden retreats with a few awesome surprises along the way!

Day 6 Tweed Heads/Coolangatta

Crossing the borders yesterday the day starts with amazing look outs and easy downhill riding. Tweed River estuary awaits, heading towards Tweed Heads (New South Wales) and Coolangatta. The Queensland city beckons with the skyline of skyscrapers contrasting the ancient giant forests to the 21 st century.

Starting the tour in Tweed heads/Coolangatta and finishing in Ballina.

How to get here: Fly from most capital cities in Australia into Byron Gateway (Ballina) Airport and fly out of Goldcoast Coolangatta Airport or reverse. Air Services from QANTAS, Jetstar , Virgin Blue and Freedom Air.

Equipment: High quality bicycle, pannier bags, repair and first aid kits, tools, spares, safety helmet, water bottles.
